Clash over sitting on chairs at Madan music festival, one person killed

A farmer named Jewel (35) was killed in a clash between two parties over sitting on a chair at a music festival in Madan Upazila of Netrakona. At least 30 people were injured. Police arrested four people in this incident.

The clash took place in Bafla village of Bansari in Kaitail Union of Upazila on Thursday afternoon.

According to the police and eyewitness sources, on Tuesday night, a singing session was held in front of Nazrul Mia's house in Kaitail village. At that time, Mahfuz, son of Chandan Mia of the same village, had an argument with Ruman, son of Jalek Mia of Bansari village, over sitting on a chair. On Wednesday, there was a scuffle between them in Kaitail market.

To resolve the matter, on Thursday morning, upazila Awami League leaders and dignitaries of the area sat in an arbitration meeting at Kaitail Bazar. At that time, when tension arose between the people of both sides, they clashed with native weapons.

Jewel, Anwar, Sajib, Nuruddin, Abu Huraira, Judge Mia, Chandan Mia, Mokhlesh, Rabiullah and Rahim who were seriously injured in the clash were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Jewel died on the way. Jewel's death was confirmed by her uncle Mohsin Mia.

Ujjal Kanti Sarkar, OC of Madan police station, said that the news of the death of one person in the clash between the two sides came to know through their relatives. Four people admitted to the hospital have been detained as suspects. Additional police have been deployed in the area to keep the situation calm.
