Bangladesh whitewashes West Indies in T20 cricket
Bangladesh had the opportunity to complete a whitewash against the West Indies after winning the first two matches of the T20 series. In the final game, the Tigers secured an emphatic 80-run victory, achieving their first-ever T20 series whitewash against the Caribbean side.
On Friday at St. Vincent, Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss. Powered by solid contributions from Zakir Ali and Parvez Hossain Emon, the team posted a formidable 189/7. Later, spinners Rishad Hossain and Sheikh Mahedi dismantled the West Indies batting lineup, bundling them out for just 109 runs in 16.4 overs.
Once again, Litton Das failed to make an impact with the bat, scoring just 14 runs. However, he formed a 44-run opening stand with Emon, who replaced Soumya Sarkar in the XI and scored a brisk 39 off 21 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. Batting at No. 4, Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a valuable 29 off 23 balls.
The star of the innings was Zakir Ali, who continued his fine form from the Test and ODI series. Zakir smashed an unbeaten 72 off 41 balls, including six sixes and three fours. Late in the innings, Tanzim Sakib chipped in with a quick 17 off 12 balls.
In their chase, the West Indies faltered early. Taskin Ahmed struck in the very first over, and debutant Justin Greaves fell to Sheikh Mahedi in the second over. Reduced to 7/2, the hosts attempted a counterattack through Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran but failed to build momentum. At 46/5, they had no way back into the game.
Charles scored 23, while Pooran managed 15. Romario Shepherd top-scored with a fighting 33. For Bangladesh, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/21 in four overs. Taskin and Sheikh Mahedi picked up two wickets each. Mahedi's all-round performance earned him the Player of the Series award.
