Match Preview: Malawi vs. Burkina Faso - Prediction, Team News, and Lineups

Malawi's hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations came to an end after a disappointing campaign, marking their second consecutive failure to reach Africa's premier football tournament. Their fate was sealed last month following back-to-back defeats against Senegal—losing 4-0 away and 1-0 at home—resulting in a run of four consecutive losses in the qualifiers.  

With their elimination already confirmed, Malawi's final matches of the campaign became a mere formality. They managed to secure a solitary point in their last outing, playing to a goalless draw against third-placed Burundi on the road. Despite the draw, Kalisto Pasuwa's newly appointed side struggled to impress, failing to register a single shot on target. This extended their goalless streak to three matches, highlighting their attacking woes.  

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso has enjoyed another successful qualification campaign following their impressive run to the last 16 in the 2023 AFCON. Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat to Senegal last week, the Stallions have already secured their spot in the 2025 tournament, accumulating 10 points from five matches. A decisive 2-0 victory over Burundi in Abidjan last month confirmed their qualification, ensuring they will finish second in Group L regardless of the outcome of their final game.  

The Stallions hold a dominant record over Malawi, remaining unbeaten in their last seven encounters (W5 D2) since June 2000. This streak includes a 3-1 victory in Bamako on matchday two of the current campaign, further underlining their superiority over the Flames.
