’Kajolrekha’ at the Rotterdam Film Festival
Bangladeshi director Gias Uddin Selim's film Kajolrekha has been selected for the Limelight section at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
The film, based on the folklore of Mymensingh Geetika, was released on April 11 but was a commercial flop despite receiving critical acclaim.
Regarding Kajolrekha's selection at IFFR, Gias Uddin Selim shared, "This festival always prioritizes experimental films. They were intrigued by how I brought an ancient folklore like Mymensingh Geetika to life on screen in a local form. I feel honored by this recognition."
The International Film Festival Rotterdam will commence on January 30, 2025, and run until February 9. Both Gias Uddin Selim and Rafiath Rashid Mithila will attend the festival in person.
The film features performances by Mandira Chakraborty, Shariful Raj, Sadia Ayman, Khairul Basar, Iresh Zaker, Azad Abul Kalam, Shahana Rahman Sumi, Irfan Selim Sujan, Jhuna Chowdhury, and others.
Notably, Gias Uddin Selim's blockbuster Monpura was previously showcased at a major festival in Switzerland, while his film Paap Punno participated in the International Film Festival of India.
