President Mohammed Shahabuddin emphasized the critical role of a modern, well-trained armed forces in safeguarding national sovereignty during a statement commemorating Armed Forces Day on Wednesday.

Highlighting the ongoing modernization of the military, the president noted that cutting-edge technology is being integrated into the armed forces to enhance their effectiveness and adaptability. He stressed that trust in leadership, mutual respect, professional skills, and discipline are essential pillars for developing a robust defense force.

President Shahabuddin paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, especially the seven recipients of the highest gallantry award, "Bir Shreshtha," and remembered the three million lives lost in the fight for independence. He honored the sacrifices of armed forces members, both during the war and in subsequent missions at home and abroad, praying for their eternal peace and extending condolences to the families of the martyrs and war-wounded.

As the supreme commander of the armed forces, the president reiterated the nation's profound respect and gratitude for their heroism and contributions during the Liberation War. He highlighted the pivotal role of November 21, 1971, when the coordinated efforts of the army, navy, and air force accelerated Bangladesh’s path to victory. This day, he remarked, holds great significance in the nation’s history.

President Shahabuddin also commended the armed forces for their ongoing contributions to nation-building, including their support to civil administration during natural disasters and national emergencies. He praised their professionalism, patience, and patriotism during the July-August student protests, which earned widespread public admiration.

On the global stage, the president lauded the armed forces’ performance in UN peacekeeping missions, where they continue to uphold Bangladesh’s reputation with discipline, honesty, and dedication. He reaffirmed the nation's unwavering respect for their efforts in maintaining peace, both domestically and internationally.
